All Reviews of Asakusa Shin Nakamise Shopping Street

It was my first time in Tokyo. I took an overnight flight and arrived at Narita Airport a little after 6 a.m. By the time I got to Asakusa, it was already around 9 or 10. I chose to stay in Asakusa because of its more traditional atmosphere. After dropping off my luggage, I quickly headed out, eager to soak up the excitement of my first visit to Tokyo.

I didn't expect the wind and rain to be so heavy that day. Even with an umbrella, I struggled a bit while walking along Shin Nakamise Shopping Street, but it didn't dampen my enthusiasm at all. Seeing Asakusa's lively streets with a touch of old Tokyo for the first time actually made it feel even more like a real trip. Although the weather didn't cooperate, the memory of those first few hours after arriving in Tokyo still feels very special when I think back on it now.

A lively shopping street full of traditional Japanese charm. Both sides are lined with unique shops, souvenir stores, and food spots. I like getting ice cream from the gelato shop here. In addition to familiar flavors like strawberry and matcha, they also have unusual ones like tofu, and each one makes me want to try it. The ice cream has a smooth texture and a refreshing flavor that isn't too rich. Every time I come back, it feels like saying hello to an old friend.

When heading out to shop, seeing the words “dismount here” made me smile.

That charming contrast between old and new, spanning hundreds of years, is exactly the kind of little surprise that makes strolling the streets so fun. Shopping with that sense of humor even makes it feel like you can slow down a bit before reaching for your wallet.

There are about 90 shops on both sides, offering souvenirs, traditional crafts, and all kinds of tasty street food.

There's so much to eat, drink, and shop for here! The street has a roof, so you don't have to worry about the sun or rain.
