Silo Observatory

Located on a hill on the western shore of Lake Toya, this scenic spot offers breathtaking panoramic views. From the observatory in the central courtyard, visitors can gaze upon Lake Toya and Nakajima Island floating on its blue surface, as well as the surrounding mountains such as Mt. Usu and Mt. Showa-Shinzan, features shaped by volcanic activity that create a dynamic landscape. It is a popular photo spot, especially renowned for its stunning sunrises and sunsets.

What I was looking forward to most at the Silo Observatory was taking in the view from above! Looking down from the observatory, you can see the entire Otaru cityscape, the port, and the mountains in the distance, with a very wide-open view. Feeling the pleasant sea breeze while slowly taking in the scenery was incredibly relaxing. It's especially beautiful for photos when the weather is good—a place where you can quietly enjoy the view and your time traveling.

This is the head temple of the Tenryuji sect of the RInzai school. It was founded by Ashikaga Takauji in 1339, during the early Muromachi period, in memory of Emperor Go-daigo, with Muso Kokushi (the eminent Zen master Muso Soseki) appointed as founding abbot.

When visiting Arashiyama, of course you can't miss Tenryu-ji Temple! As soon as you enter the temple grounds, the surrounding scenery immediately makes you feel calm. Compared with the lively streets outside, this place has a more relaxing and laid-back atmosphere.

Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley)

One of Noboribetsu’s most popular tourist destinations, Jigokudani is the remains of a volcanic crater formed by the eruption of Mount Hiyoriyama. The valley, which spans about 450 meters in diameter and covers approximately 11 hectares, is still geothermally active. It serves as the main source for the renowned Noboribetsu Onsen, which boasts an impressive daily output of 10,000 tons of hot spring water.

It was my first time visiting Noboribetsu Jigokudani, and I could smell a very distinct sulfur odor before I even got close! The unusual smell in the air, along with the white steam constantly rising from the valley, immediately made me appreciate the area's unique volcanic landscape.

Seeing scenery like this in person for the first time felt truly special and unforgettable!

Hakodate Morning Market

Hakodate Asaichi is a huge market of about 33,000㎡. Some 250 stores, including about 150 member stores of the federation and 100 other stores, sell and serve Hokkaido foodstuffs. Member stores display a sticker of "Asaitchan ," the mascot of the Hakodate market, as their recommended store sign.

When visiting Hakodate, of course you have to get up early and explore the famous Hakodate Morning Market! As soon as I entered the market, I was drawn to all the fresh seafood. The crabs, scallops, sea urchin, salmon roe, and many other kinds of seafood were dazzling.

What I looked forward to most was a bowl of fresh seafood donburi, piled high with seafood over rice. Every bite tasted like the sea, and the feeling of happiness was off the charts.

This music box specialty shop has branches in various locations such as Otaru, Hakodate, Furano, Yokohama, Kamakura, and Kyoto. Its main building, which is the main shop, was built in 1915 (Taisho 4) and is designated as a historic building by Otaru City, preserving the remnants of the good old days.

The famous Otaru Orgel Doh Main Hall! As soon as I walked in, I was drawn to all the music boxes. Every one was delicate and adorable, and as the music played, the entire store was filled with a romantic atmosphere.

The wide variety of music boxes was dazzling, from cute little animals and dreamy carousels to all kinds of beautifully crafted designs. Each one made me want to pick it up and admire it.

Shiroi Koibito is a well-known brand of sweets in Hokkaido. At Shiroi Koibito Park, you can tour the production line, learn the history of chocolate from the display, and create your own Shiroi Koibito snack.

Shiroi Koibito Park in Hokkaido really makes you feel like you've stepped into a fairy-tale world! The park is filled with European-style architecture, dreamy gardens, and cute chocolate-themed elements. Every corner is great for photos!

Strolling through the park, you can admire the beautiful buildings while soaking in the sweet atmosphere. It almost feels like the scent of chocolate and cookies is floating through the air.

When traveling, I always keep a box of Seirogan in my luggage. After all, there are so many opportunities to enjoy good food on a trip that an occasional upset stomach is hard to avoid〜

Seirogan does have a distinctive smell, but taking just one when I have diarrhea, loose stools, or digestive discomfort from something I ate works really well.

I really like how fresh it feels after brushing without being overly harsh. It's great to use after eating or before bed. Besides keeping my mouth clean by brushing every day, I also hope to keep my teeth bright and my breath fresh.

It's more than just a place to catch a train. The surrounding area is also filled with department stores, restaurants, shops, and plenty of recreational spaces, making it very convenient to explore. What I like most is Osaka Station City's modern architecture and spacious layout. Especially when you go up high and look out over Osaka, you can see a cityscape filled with tall buildings and streets, with a different charm during the day and at night.

Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlet is the largest outlet shopping mall in West Japan. The outlet mall is designed as a “open sophisticated town for adults” modeled after Pasadena, a high-class residential suburb of Los Angeles.

There's a wide selection of brands here, including clothing, shoes, bags, and sports brands, with plenty of discounted items as well. It's a great place to take your time hunting for finds. When you get tired from shopping, you can stop at a cafe to rest and grab a bite, making for a relaxing half day.

The best part this time was browsing for things I liked while enjoying the beautiful streetscape. Finding something to take home felt so rewarding!
