Marugame Castle
The 400-year old symbol of Marugame City is Hirayama Castle. It was built by a samurai, Ikoma Chikamasa, and his son, Kazumasa, over five years.
One of only 12 original castle keeps left in Japan. It's a tiny, charming castle—definitely worth a visit!

Museum Meiji Mura Village
This open-air museum first opened its doors in 1965, the artistically and historically valuable buildings, including 11 important cultural properties, mostly from the Meiji period, were relocated, preserved, and exhibited here.
The grounds are huge—you'll need a whole day to really take it all in.

Motsuji Temple
Motsuji Temple, designated by the government as both a Special Historic Site and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, houses the foundation stones and other remains of many Buddhist buildings from the Heian period (794-1192).
The natural scenery here is really unique. It's worth spending a bit more time to take it all in.
