The grounds are huge—you'll need a whole day to really take it all in.

Marugame Castle
The 400-year old symbol of Marugame City is Hirayama Castle. It was built by a samurai, Ikoma Chikamasa, and his son, Kazumasa, over five years.
One of only 12 original castle keeps left in Japan. It's a tiny, charming castle—definitely worth a visit!

Karatsu Castle
A retainer of Hideyoshi Toyotomi and the first lord of Karatsu, Hirotaka Terasawa, had completed its building for 7years in 1602. Many lords from the Kyushu area helped this construction and old materials used in the Nagoya castle were used.
Climb up to the castle keep for an amazing view. You can see Niji-no-Matsubara and Karatsu Bay so clearly!

Motsuji Temple
Motsuji Temple, designated by the government as both a Special Historic Site and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, houses the foundation stones and other remains of many Buddhist buildings from the Heian period (794-1192).
The natural scenery here is really unique. It's worth spending a bit more time to take it all in.
