Kajiyamachi Street
From the 12th to the 19th century, Hitoyoshi City was ruled by the Sagara clan, a feudal lord family of the Warring States period. This spot still preserves the atmosphere of the artisan district formed by the clan, and today it offers a charming ambiance that has earned it the nickname of Kumamoto’s Little Kyoto.
This street really has that old Kyoto vibe. It’s super pleasant to walk around and doesn’t feel overly commercial.
It’s not very long, but the little shops all have their own character. If you take your time, you might find some hidden gems. -
Ario Kameari
Walk about 4 minutes from Kameari Station and you’ll see a giant shopping center with convenient access. Rising three stories above street level, with a total area of about 137,800 square meters, this huge complex houses Ito-Yokado, as well as over 120 specialty stores.
This is the kind of big shopping mall that locals go to all the time. Super comfortable and easy to shop around.

Tokyu Plaza Harajuku Harakado
Doors are wide open at this brand new mega-retailer, opened at the Jingumae intersection between Harajuku and Omotesando in April 2024. Step inside to find nine different floors from basement to 7th floor rooftop terrace, complete with 75 shops and restaurants to browse, plus a public bathhouse, gallery, library, and so much more.
The architecture is really unique, and there are luxury brand shops downstairs.
