Asukayama Park

Tokyo’s Top Cherry Blossom Spot.

3.87 2

Last update :

Japan's first park, opened to the public and planted with cherry trees by Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune about 300 years ago. It is one of Tokyo’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots, and the park features around 600 cherry trees. Other plants in the park include hydrangeas and azaleas.
The “Asuka Park Rail,” a self-propelled monorail, runs near the station, and with just a 2-minute ride you can reach the top of the hill. The train car is nicknamed “Escargot” thanks to its resemblance to a snail. The monorail is free to ride, and it is also wheelchair and stroller-accessible.
Additionally, there are also exhibits of steam locomotives and city trams that were once in operation, as well as playground equipment, making it a place where both adults and children can have fun.

Highlights

  • The park is home to the Kita-ku Asukayama Museum, Paper Museum, and Shibusawa Memorial Museum (paid admission).
  • During the cherry blossom season you can see beautiful lit-up cherry blossoms at night.
  • Real, previously-operational steam locomotive and Toden trains are on display.
  • There are playground equipment and water play facilities where children can play barefoot.
