Roka Koshun-en Gardens

Roka Koshun-en is a garden located on the site of a mansion occupied by novelist Roka Tokutomi during the Meiji and Taisho eras.
The garden is divided into the Koshun-en section, which contains Roka Tokutomi’s residence, and a park area that is always open to the public.

The Koshun-en section features both a memorial hall and the mansion, and visitors can see the materials used for Tokutomi’s novels and other exhibits, giving a glimpse into his life while he was writing. There is also a refreshing bamboo forest of “moso” bamboo, and combined with the estate’s traditional Japanese architecture it makes for a mysterious atmosphere.

The park area includes a playground for children, as well as flowering hills where seasonal flowers grown by locals bloom.
