Along with Aoba Dori, this main street is a symbol of Sendai, the "City of Trees," with four rows of zelkova trees stretching 700 meters, which can be enjoyed in all seasons, from fresh greenery to autumn leaves. The center of the street is a promenade, where visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll while sipping a cup of coffee.
The modern glass-walled building along the street is a public facility called "Sendai Mediatheque . It houses not only books but also video materials and is a center for art and video culture activities.
In December, the "Sendai Pageant of Starlight ," an illumination event in which the zelkova trees are lit up, is held. Usually held from early December to the 31st, the event attracts more than 2.8 million people during the period, making it one of Sendai's most popular winter events. At a set time, all the light bulbs are temporarily turned off and turned on again in an event called "Starlight Wink," which is very exciting.
