NIPPONIA Sasayama castle town is a small-scale and decentralized hotel that makes use of historical architectures in Tamba-Sasayama Castle Town. Here is the first hotel under the "NIPPONIA", which VMG HOTELS&UNIQUEVENUES developed to the nationwide brand.
The renovation was led by the locally-based company Nooto in Sasayama. They work revitalizing the rural community with the restoration of many kominka (traditional wooden private houses). At the time of its opening in 2015, decentralized hotels were not yet recognized by law, but they managed to get approvement as a special zone operator under the National Strategic Special Zone.
Along with the ONAE building which houses the front desk and restaurant, there are 10 buildings in total. To hand over the traditional houses to future generations, each room maintains a sense of the old and nostalgic kominka houses while offering a comfortable room in the same time.
Tamba-Sasayama produces a variety of foods. The food for their French restaurant is sourced from fresh local ingredients including Tamba Chestnuts, black soybeans, and matsutake mushroom. The courses are designed to celebrate Tamba Sasayama’s food culture, along with the high-quality yet simple Tamba-yaki pottery dishes.
