Asakusa Toyokan
The comedy theater in Asakusa which produced Beat Takeshi.
Asakusa has been fostering the culture of amusement since ancient days,and that is where this theater stands to host comedy talks. Its name is officially Asakusa France-za Engeijo Toyokan. The likes of Kiyoshi Atsumi and Hachiro Azuma stood on stage here and became TV stars later. The famous Beat Takeshi began as an elevator boy in Toyokan and debuted as a comedian pair, Two Beat.
Currently, the theater have performances from 12:30pm - 5:00pm all year round. From the rookie to veteran, 15 - 20 pairs/individuals perform comedies, magic and acrobatics. Tickets are basically sold at the theater on the day of performance only. You can check the performers on the website before you go or just hop in and meet rookies. Faces familiar on TV shows may perform here. Those who love laughter cannot stop going to this comic mecca.
