Located near “Kenroku-en” garden, also a tourist spot and one of the 3 beautiful Japanese gardens. This Chisen Kaiyu style pond garden is older than Kenroku-en by 120 years, and was built in the mid-Edo period.
As a designated garden by the Ishikawa Prefecture, this garden took 100 years to be built by the first Naokata Wakita, an upper samurai of the Kaga-clan, to the 4th Kuhei. The garden is composed of the main garden, west garden, and east garden. It is based on a mountain water diagram drawn by the Southern Song Dynasty painter, Yu Jian. It is a Gyokukan style garden, one of the 6 gardens in Japan. Inside the premises is the 400 year old Korean pine and flowers. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful view and take a leisurely walk around the garden.
At the top of the garden is Kanazawa's oldest tea house, “Saisetsutei”, where visitors can enjoy green tea and Japanese snacks (1500 yen, admission included), while observing the garden. If reserved 3 days prior, visitors can enjoy a tea room experience (3000 yen, admission included).
