Toden Omoide Hiroba (Toden Memorial Square)

Located inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation's Arakawa Tram Depot (Arakawa Car Barn), this space, designed to evoke memories of old Tokyo tram stops, showcases two historically significant trams and opens to the public for free on weekends.

The first exhibit is the 5500 series (car number 5501), manufactured in 1954 and used on the No. 1 line from Shinagawa Station to Ueno Station. This tram, featuring a unique streamlined body, incorporated the latest American streetcar technology. Known for its low noise and high acceleration, it was commonly referred to as a "PCC car." Inside the tram, visitors can freely explore a mock driver's cab, control panel, a diorama depicting the Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line) route, and display cases of historical materials.

The second tram on display is the old 7500 series (car number 7504), built in 1962 and notable for its rare two-light design. Known affectionately as "Gakuen-go" (School Number) for its service in school commute transportation during the morning rush hours in its final years, this tram has a distinctive orange body with dark navy lines, offering a nostalgic atmosphere. Visitors can immerse themselves in a nostalgic mood in front of these two trams that colored the prime of Tokyo's streetcars.
