Yokosuka Museum of Art

Nestled in the lush nature of Kannonzaki Park at the tip of the Miura Peninsula, this museum overlooks the sea. Designed with the concept that "the entire environment is an art museum," it harmoniously blends with the surrounding sea and park forests, featuring a significant underground section. The building is distinguished by its glass-covered exterior, flooding the interior with natural light through circular windows on the ceilings and walls.

The collection focuses on artists and works related to Yokosuka and the Miura Peninsula, housing about 5,000 pieces of modern and contemporary Japanese art. It rotates exhibitions four times a year and hosts various special exhibitions to convey the allure of art. The museum also features areas like the forest plaza and the sea plaza, where visitors can relax amidst art and nature.

Additionally, it includes the Taniuchi Rokuro Pavilion, dedicated to Rokuro Taniuchi, a leading Showa-era painter who had his atelier near Kannonzaki. This section showcases Taniuchi's nostalgic depictions of Showa-era landscapes through extensive exhibits. The museum actively organizes a wide range of workshops and events, enhancing the visitor experience.
