Sushiya Koshien

Sushiya Koshien is a sushi restaurant located inside Sendai Jogaishijo Mori no Ichiba Market in Wakabayashi Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Making the most of its prime location about 150 meters in a straight line from the Sendai City Central Wholesale Market, it sources fresh seafood landed that very day.

Its signature dish is the “Omakase President Nigiri.” This popular set includes 10 pieces of nigiri made mainly with live scallop and live whelk, along with other seafood from Sanriku, plus soup. Other well-loved options include the “Sea Parent-and-Child Bowl,” generously topped with salmon and salmon roe, and the “Marinated Seafood Bowl,” made with seafood soaked in a special soy-based sauce. The sushi rice uses Sasanishiki rice from Miyagi Prefecture, and the nori comes from Matsushima. One of the biggest draws is the chance to fully enjoy the bounty of Miyagi.

The restaurant has only four counter seats and is by reservation only. Part of the appeal is being able to watch the chef’s craftsmanship up close in a calm, special setting. It is within walking distance of Oroshimachi Station on the Sendai Subway Tozai Line, and also about Approx. 10 minutes by car from the Sendai-higashi IC on the Sendai Tobu Road. There is also a large parking lot in front of the restaurant, making it easy to get there by train or car.
