Ryuchin Gorge

A quiet sacred place of emerald waterfall basins and the dragon god.

Last update :

Ryuchin Gorge stretches through the valley along the upper Fukadani River, a scenic spot shaped by the clear stream flowing into Lake Murou. When sunlight hits the waterfall basin, it turns a transparent emerald green and shines vividly in the stillness of the forest. Moss-covered rocks and white stones are scattered along the riverside, and the water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom.

On the banks of the gorge stands Ryuchin Shrine, where Takaokami no Kami, the deity who governs water, is enshrined in the small shrine building. It is said that rainmaking rituals were once held here, and people still visit today as a place of worship.

This area is part of Murou Akame Aoyama Quasi-National Park, and swimming and the use of open flames are prohibited. Follow the walking path from the Murou Dam parking lot, and you will reach the gorge in Approx. 10 to 20 minutes while enjoying the forest air. The trail is rocky and can be slippery, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes that are easy to move in.

In autumn, fall colors add even more beauty, with red and yellow leaves standing out against the green gorge. Walk through this valley, where the scenery changes with the seasons, and you can truly feel the quiet space where nature and faith come together.
