Kahadakyō Gorge

Kahadakyō Gorge is centered on the Kushida River, known as one of the prefecture’s clearest streams, and the gorge that spreads along its tributaries. The name is said to come from the area’s fragrant local specialties, such as tea and sweetfish. Dotted with unusual rock formations and sheer cliffs and surrounded by primeval forest, it offers a rich natural setting for a wide range of outdoor activities.

National Route 166, where you can admire the scenic beauty of the gorge stretching for Approx. 40 km, is a popular route among cycling and motorcycle touring enthusiasts. There are also many well-maintained hiking and walking courses that take you through its mystical mountains and valleys.

Playing in the river is especially recommended in summer. Some operators on the crystal-clear Kushida River offer guided canoeing experiences, making it easy even for beginners to join with confidence.

In spring, cherry blossoms bloom in abundance, and in autumn, the mountains turn brilliant with fall colors, creating scenery in the deep mountain gorge that looks like a painting by nature itself.
