Shinjiko Green Park
A nature-rich park with a birdwatching observatory next to the shore of Lake Shinji.
Located on the western shore of Lake Shinji, Shinjiko Green Park is a nature-rich park designed for birdwatching and nature walks. Making the most of its location beside the lake, it offers beautiful lakeside scenery and a close-up experience of the natural waterside environment.
The park is dotted with grassy areas, groves, and small streams, and along its walking paths you can observe how nature changes with the seasons. One of its charms is being able to experience plants and wildlife up close in a real natural environment. There is also a biotope pond and a bird sanctuary, where you can observe the habitats used by waterside creatures and wild birds.
From the second floor of the birdwatching observatory, you can watch wild birds, especially waterfowl, with Lake Shinji spread out before you. Using telescopes and binoculars, you can observe birds gathered on the lake and in the surrounding area. Staff are always on hand, so even first-time birdwatchers can feel at ease. There is also a well-equipped kids’ corner and plenty of hands-on exhibits where children can learn about nature while having fun.
In summer and winter, the park hosts special exhibitions on wildlife and the natural environment, along with seasonal displays throughout the year. It also offers fun nature-themed events such as a monthly nature observation session and guided walks around the park with quizzes and commentary.
The attached Penguin Museum displays more than 2,000 penguin-themed items. The collection was opened to the public after penguin goods collected over 40 years by Seishi Sakamoto, chairman of the Hoshizaki Green Foundation and also chairman of Hoshizaki Corporation, were donated. On display are a wide variety of penguin items collected from Japan and abroad, including rare wooden penguin carvings from South America, crystal glass penguins, picture books, stuffed toys, and music boxes.
It is also close to Lake Shinji Nature Museum Gobius, making it easy to combine indoor exhibits with an outdoor experience of the natural surroundings of Lake Shinji. Thanks to its lakeside location, you can enjoy the scenery and experience the waterside environment up close.
