Shirakata Park
A relaxing spot for Matsue locals on the shore of Lake Shinji, famous for its sunsets.
This waterfront park stretches along the shore of Lake Shinji in central Matsue City. Across the road, it is divided into western and eastern sections on the lake side. The western section in particular is known as a prime spot for leisurely taking in the sunset over Lake Shinji, often praised as one of the most beautiful in Japan. The dimming sky, the orange sunset reflected on the lake, and the twilight after the sun goes down... It is an ideal sunset-viewing spot where you can relax and enjoy the dramatic scenery as it changes moment by moment.
Inside the park, pine trees and stone lanterns create a subtle Japanese atmosphere. Along the lakeside, walking paths and benches make it easy to enjoy a relaxing stroll and refresh your mind.
On the eastern side, there is a spacious lawn area, a multipurpose plaza, and sculptural playground equipment, making it easy for families with children to enjoy. The sunlight in the morning and daytime is also refreshing, and it is a great place to spread out a picnic blanket, sit on a bench and chat, or simply unwind and lose track of time.
