Shishi no Reigan Observatory

One of Takamatsu City's best scenic spots, with sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea.

Supervised by :  高松市

This observation spot offers sweeping views of downtown Takamatsu and the Seto Inland Sea, including Ogijima and Megijima islands. It was named after a large rock below the observatory that looks like a lion roaring toward the sea. On clear days, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view with one of the widest vistas in Shikoku.

Because it faces west, one of its biggest draws is the stunning sunset view right in front of you, with the sky and sea glowing crimson. The sunset scenery is so remarkable that it was selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Sunsets, and the night view, with the lights of downtown Takamatsu sparkling below, is just as beautiful. From bright daytime views to orange-hued sunsets, gradually fading twilight, and romantic night scenery, the ever-changing landscape is captivating.

Another popular highlight is the paid kawarake-nage experience, where visitors throw small, cracker-like clay discs to pray for good luck and protection from misfortune. It is said that if the disc passes cleanly through the ring, you will receive blessings.
