Tokiwa Park (Yamaguchi Prefecture)

A large park centered around Tokiwa Lake, covering Approx. 100 hectares. The grounds are home to attractions such as Tokiwa Zoo, Tokiwa Amusement Park, and Tokiwa Museum, where visitors can enjoy nature, culture, and leisure all in one place. It is also registered as a Registered Monument (Place of Scenic Beauty), the first in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and is beloved for its beautiful natural scenery.

Another highlight is the seasonal flowers that bloom throughout the park, including cherry blossoms in spring, Japanese irises, and hydrangeas, letting visitors feel the changing seasons as they stroll. At the World Botanic Garden in Tokiwa Museum, you can encounter rare plants and flowers through exhibits that recreate the vegetation of their places of origin.

The park hosts the UBE Biennale, the world's oldest international outdoor sculpture competition, once every three years, and around 100 sculptures, including award-winning works from the competition’s more than 60-year history, are permanently displayed throughout the grounds. Set along the lakeside and among the greenery, these sculptures naturally come into view as you walk, creating a landscape where nature and art exist in harmony.

Tokiwa Lake is also registered as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure, and the scenery created by the water and greenery is another of the park’s charms. The spacious grounds feature walking paths and grassy open areas, making it easy to enjoy the changing seasons as you explore. Whether you stop by briefly or stay for half a day or more, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your time here.
