Dannoura Parking Area
The last parking area on Honshu, overlooking the Kanmon Straits up close.
The last parking area on Honshu, with panoramic views of the Kanmon Straits. Located on the Kanmon Expressway, Dannoura PA (Parking Area) is known for its observation deck, which offers close-up views of the Kanmon Straits and Kanmon Bridge. Visitors can watch ships passing through the straits and see as far as Mojiko on the opposite shore while taking in scenery distinctive to the Kanmon Straits.
Inside, visitors are greeted by a giant whale sculpture. The shopping area offers products made with Shimonoseki specialties such as pufferfish, locally called fuku, sea urchin, and whale. Dining options include seafood rice bowls and dishes featuring ingredients associated with Shimonoseki, including pufferfish and whale. One highlight is the “Fuku and Whale Combo Rice Bowl,” which brings both together in a single bowl. Also available is keiran-yaki, a small castella-like cake that has long been a popular local comfort food in Shimonoseki.
The facility also includes the 14-room Family Lodge Hatagoya Dannoura PA, where travelers can stay overnight without leaving the expressway. With a 24-hour food court and shopping area, EV fast-charging stations, a baby care area, and other amenities, it is a convenient stop not only for the views, but also for dining, shopping, and accommodations.
