Ryokan Akebono is an accommodation facility in the center of Saga City, Saga Prefecture. Founded in 1889, this long-established ryokan has been cherished for generations by locals and Japanese cultural figures alike. It is also conveniently located, about a 5-minute drive from JR Saga Station. The ryokan welcomes a wide range of stays, from sightseeing to business trips.

Inside, the inn is defined by a style that blends traditional Japanese design with Western elements. The dining room, “Nabeshima no Ma,” was renovated by architect Toru Shimokawa, who is based in Fukuoka, Japan. The floor, fully covered with Arita ware tiles, leaves a striking impression. The property also features a shop selling pottery such as Arita ware and Imari ware, along with a library space that is ideal for a short moment of relaxation. Guest rooms include Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, and single rooms finished throughout with the local traditional material known as shell lime plaster. In the glass-walled “Hinoki Bath,” you can soak in the water while looking out over the courtyard garden.

Meals feature course menus made with seasonal ingredients from Saga Prefecture, including Saga beef and seafood caught in the Ariake Sea. The tableware used includes works by ceramic artists from within Saga Prefecture. Rakugo, jazz, and sake events are also held regularly on the property. The ryokan is also loved as a place for sharing culture. This is a city ryokan where you can fully enjoy the atmosphere of a castle town and the flavors of Saga.
