Kutsurogijuku Shintaki

A mountain streamside inn with a variety of distinctive baths featuring free-flowing hot spring water directly from the source.

Supervised by :  Kutsurogijuku Co., Ltd.

This inn stands along the mountain stream that flows through the heart of Higashiyama Onsen in Aizuwakamatsu. It is known for having been frequented by many prominent writers and artists from the Meiji through Showa periods, most notably Yumeji Takehisa, who visited three times.

There are four baths where guests can experience free-flowing water directly from Higashiyama Onsen, a hot spring with 1,300 years of history. Each has its own character, including Watari-yu, a modern interpretation of a traditional hot spring retreat; a natural rock bath associated with generations of Aizu feudal lords; and an open-air bath beside the mountain stream. Guests may also use the baths at the sister inn Kutsurogijuku Chiyotaki, about a 6-minute walk away in the Higashiyama Onsen district. Its top-floor panoramic public bath and other facilities offer a different atmosphere from those at Shintaki.

Dinner features creative Aizu regional cuisine prepared with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. The dining room also offers more than 30 varieties of local sake from Aizuwakamatsu, a city with numerous breweries. A range of accommodations is available to suit different travel needs, including special rooms with private open-air hot spring baths, Western-style rooms, and Japanese-Western rooms.
