Kurashiki Riverboat Tour
Admire the atmospheric white-walled townscape at a leisurely pace from the river.
A leisurely sightseeing experience aboard a traditional-style riverboat on the Kurashiki River, which flows through the heart of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. During the approximately 20-minute ride along the river, once busy with boats transporting goods, passengers can admire scenes reminiscent of an earlier era, including white-walled storehouses and rows of willow trees.
The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter takes on a different character when viewed from the water rather than from the streets. Along the Kurashiki River stand old merchant houses dating from the Edo period, traditional namako-patterned walls, and white-walled storehouses once used to store goods. Together, they offer a glimpse of Kurashiki during the Edo period, when the town prospered through water transportation.
A nighttime version of the Kurashiki Riverboat Tour is also sometimes held in the fall, offering an atmospheric experience unlike the daytime tour.
