Starbucks Coffee Dogo Onsen Station Building
Enjoy coffee and the romance of rail travel in a historic station building.
This Starbucks occupies the entire Dogo Onsen Station building on the Iyo Railway. The current station is the third-generation building, restored in 1986 based on the former station building constructed in 1911. It has long served as the gateway to Dogo Onsen, said to be Japan’s oldest hot spring. This distinctive location brings together a historic station building and a coffee shop.
The design concept is “Line to Coffee Travel.” Making the most of the Western-style architecture, which retains the atmosphere of the Meiji period (1868–1912), the interior combines the themes of coffee and rail travel. Railroad ties are used for the first-floor bar counter, and through the window behind it, guests can watch trains come and go beyond the baristas. The second floor features passport-inspired artwork and tables made with railroad ties and rails. Playful railway motifs can be found throughout the store.
The store is conveniently located near attractions such as Dogo Onsen Honkan and Dogo Shopping Arcade. It also sells the 296 ml “[JIMOTO Made] Mikarakusa Mug,” crafted by Baizan-Gama, a Tobe ware pottery. The mug makes a fitting keepsake of a visit to Ehime or a souvenir for someone back home.
