Dotonbori is also a bustling district that symbolizes Osaka, the “city of eating till you drop.” The streets are lined with food, restaurants, and shops, with a constant stream of tourists, and the whole area has a lively and cheerful atmosphere.

When you visit Dotonbori, be sure to take a photo with the Glico Running Man! This classic view has practically become an iconic image of Osaka tourism, so you really can’t miss it on your first visit to Osaka!

I also highly recommend visiting once in the morning and once at night, as the experience is completely different. Dotonbori is more relaxed in the morning, so you can take your time taking photos. At night, all the neon lights come on, making the entire street even brighter and livelier, with a totally different atmosphere.

What makes Shinsaibashi special is its lively Osaka atmosphere.
The streets are crowded and packed with shops, and you’ll keep seeing stores with different styles as you walk through the shopping arcade.
If you enjoy browsing, shopping for clothes, or looking for beauty products, you could spend half a day here. If you just want to wander around and grab something to eat, you can still have a great time for an hour or two.
Shinsaibashi PARCO is also nearby, so anyone who wants to fit all their shopping into one trip can visit both.

During the day, Dotonbori is a food lover's paradise. Stroll along the canal and eat your way through the long-established places with lines out the door. Once night falls and all the neon lights come on, the entire street instantly transforms into a vibrant city that never sleeps. This is the true spirit of Osaka.

Every one of my friends takes their first photo in Osaka with the Glico sign in Dotonbori. It's clear and simple, and I think Glico must be pretty happy about that. Everyone knows this figure, but maybe some people don't actually know the brand? (Because I didn't at first, but I knew Glico...?)

because it's seriously packed with people.
