Omi Shrine

The Omi Shrine is located on the site of the Omi Otsu no Miya Palace, which was the capital of Japan for five years from 667. The shrine is dedicated to Emperor Tenji, the 38th Emperor of Japan, who was involved in the Taika Reform as Naka no Oe no Oji Prince and moved the capital from Asuka in Nara to Otsu in Omi.

After passing along the long forest approach, a vermilion tower gate surrounded by lush greenery comes into view.

Omi Shrine is not only an important cultural property of Japan,

but also a sacred place for fans of Chihayafuru.

Walking among the towering old trees, the air carries a faint scent of wood and moss, and you can deeply feel the calm and tranquility brought by its long history.

Strolling through the green forest, it feels as if your entire body, mind, and spirit have been thoroughly cleansed.

Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is the premier destination for dinosaur exhibits and more here at one of one of Japan’s largest museums. Its home in Katsuyama City is where many ancient teeth, bones, footprints and other relics from vertebrate animals like dinosaurs have been found in Japan.

I brought family and friends to the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum.

It truly lives up to its reputation as a world-class dinosaur destination. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are so well done.

Inside, there are incredibly impressive skeleton fossils and animatronic dinosaurs, with lots of information to learn; the outdoor area is also huge, and the kids explored the dinosaur forest, discovering all kinds of surprises. They had so much fun they didn't want to leave〜

Seeing everyone having such a great time, I truly think this is a dream destination for families with kids! I highly recommend it to anyone with a dinosaur fan in the family.

Kitaro Train

This wrapped train features characters from the popular manga GeGeGe no Kitaro. Running along the JR Sakai Line between Sakaiminato and Yonago, it’s a favorite among Kitaro fans from Japan and abroad.

We finally had the chance to ride the decorated Kitaro Train. It was packed with Kitaro elements, and we couldn't stop taking pictures, leaving us with many wonderful photos. If you get the chance, be sure to ride it.

Mizuki Shigeru Road

Mizuki Shigeru Road was established in 1993. The 800-meter-long street from Sakaiminato Station to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum is lined with 177 bronze yokai sculptures.

The street is packed with Kitaro elements, along with all kinds of cookies and souvenirs to choose from. We also happened to run into the Yamada mascot.

Tsuru-no-Mai Bridge

This is a 300 meter-long triple-arched wooden bridge over Lake Fujimi. The bridge is known as "Nagaiki-no-Hashi" (bridge of long life) and is popular for its longevity blessing. The bridge is also renowned for "Tsugaru no Sakasa Fuji" (Mt. Iwaki reflected on the lake surface), which can only be seen on clear, windless days and was used in a JR East TV advertisement. Near the bridge are Crane Nature Park and Fujimi Lake Park, which are also good places for a stroll.

Tsuru-no-Mai Bridge in Aomori is absolutely stunning when you catch it on a clear day.

This is Japan’s longest wooden triple-arched bridge, stretching 300 meters in total, and it’s built entirely with Aomori cypress, a local specialty.

I started loving nama chocolate because of their products. The first time I tried it, I was amazed—it melts in your mouth and is packed with rich chocolate flavor. So delicious.

This time, I also saw white peach and pistachio flavors, so I bought them right away to try flavors I’d never had before.

Asakusa Shin Nakamise Shopping Street

Boasting a history of about 90 years since its inception in the early Showa era, the Asakusa Shin Nakamise Shopping Street crosses Asakusa from east to west, in contrast to the Nakamise Shopping Street that connects the Kaminarimon Gate to Asakusa Temple. It is the largest shopping street in Asakusa, with a total length of 380m, and is composed of five areas.

When heading out to shop, seeing the words “dismount here” made me smile.

Sensoji Temple really is one of Tokyo’s classic landmarks! No matter how many times I’ve been, seeing that huge red lantern still makes me admire how impressive it is.

The place is packed every day with visitors from all over the world.

Ginza-Dori street is one of Japan's most prestigious shopping districts with a sense of history and elegance. It is lined with department stores and high-end brand stores, rivaling New York's Fifth Avenue and London's Oxford Street.

Each luxury flagship store feels like an arena for the world’s top architects. They weave the spirit of each brand into the facades and structures, making these buildings works of architectural art you can’t take your eyes off while strolling around.

Tokyo Station: Marunouchi Station Building

The construction of Japan’s front gate, Tokyo Station, began in March, 1908 and it was opened in December, 1914. Kingo Tatsuno, the pioneer of modern architecture in Japan, designed it. The steel-framed, brick Marunouchi Station building was burned on the roof and interior in the 1945 air raid.

Every time I enter Tokyo Station, it feels like stepping into a huge maze. The high domed ceiling really makes you stop and look up.

With its modern, varied electronic payment options, getting in and out is really convenient. Since the cards are now minimalist in design, I got a registered card as a souvenir.

It has my name printed on it, so it’s not just my own personal travel pass. Every time I see it, I’m instantly reminded of the feeling of walking through the streets of Tokyo and looking up beneath the dome at Tokyo Station.
