Namba Marui

Located in the heart of Osaka's Minami area, Namba, it is directly connected to the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line Namba Station via an underground pathway, allowing customers to enter without getting wet even on rainy days. It also has good access from other JR and private railway stations.

We came here because my second aunt wanted to shop at either GU or UQ—I forgot, hahaha.
I looked around a bit myself and thought it was just okay〜

But unexpectedly, I went inside and found my favorite, gelato pique!

I thought I’d try my luck and see if they had the shark set, and they actually did! It was for men, but they happened to be having a big summer sale. I originally thought new items wouldn’t be included, but when I checked the official website, it actually was.
(When I looked for it in Okayama before, the last one was in the hands of the woman right in front of me, and the employee told me directly that they were out.

But I actually happened to find it here〜〜〜

The employee went out of his way to find the remaining ones for me and said these were all they had left. I got the feeling he thought I wouldn’t buy them, but I’m the kind of person who’ll surprise you. I didn’t even try them on and bought them right away, hehe.

They were 30% off the original price, with an additional 10% off if you bought two items, plus tax-free shopping. Wasn’t everything perfectly aligned?
And it was my favorite shark design. I must be the goddess of luck, right?

I immediately said, “これください！”

The female employee’s eyes widened, and she quickly called the tax-free counter for me, then led me as we ran all the way through the department store〜

The person at the tax-free counter was a Chinese international student. He told me I was so lucky because they would have closed if they hadn’t just gotten the call. He also said my card looked really fancy.

Then the next second, he actually dropped my card?

Me？？？I was speechless⋯

But anyway, I was super happy that I got those two pieces!
I even went back specifically to thank the female employee〜〜

Then, right when I was feeling happy, my second aunt and cousin got into an argument!
My second aunt thought my cousin had picked a size that was too small, but I think he just likes his clothes fitted?

My second aunt told him to choose for himself, but after he did, she picked another one that she thought was better.

My cousin got super angry right away.

“Then why did you ask me to choose?”

The two of them stayed angry the whole way, so even though I’d gotten my favorite shark set, I didn’t dare show how happy I was at all.

And we actually came to this department store twice. We came back again on the last day because my second aunt probably felt she was a little in the wrong, hahaha.

But in the middle of all that chaos, I also saw a beautiful sunset glow.

On one hand, I unexpectedly got the shark set I’d been longing for. On the other, my family suddenly got into an argument for no apparent reason. Then at the end, I looked up and saw a beautiful sunset.

But that’s what traveling is like—messy and chaotic, but with some very lucky memories worth remembering too, I guess〜(˶‾᷄ ⁻̫ ‾᷅˵)

Because so many people recommended it, I easily lost all self-control, and it also claims to be non-sticky〜 so I bought it〜 It's so easy to make money off women (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)
I still think it's a little sticky. Compared with others, it's already not that sticky, but I'm pretty picky. It doesn't make your hair stick, though, and it has a faint sunscreen smell!
But I'm also pretty lazy and can't be bothered to apply it, so I don't really know how effective the sun protection is. There are lots of videos where they divide the skin into sections and test products under strong sunlight, and this one is pretty good〜 The strongest is still black tape hahahaha
You can also use it on your face〜

Black Thunder

This chocolate snack is very popular for its affordable price of 40 yen and deliciousness. Cocoa cookie and plain biscuit are coated with chocolate. You can taste the light bitterness of a cocoa cookie matched with the sweetness of chocolate. Crunchy texture and the volume which can fill your stomach lightly pleases you.

It had been a really, really long time since I'd had Black Thunder. It was hugely popular for a while, and I was obsessed with it in elementary school. I heard you couldn't even buy it in Japan back then!
I think one of my classmates brought back a bag to hand out to everyone, and everyone looked at them like they were a celebrity. It was hilarious 😆
I was no exception, because I also wanted to taste what everyone was scrambling to get〜
Sure enough, it tasted extra special. I also had a huge sweet tooth back then. Wow, it was so good〜 I really wanted another one.
Back then, anyone who had Black Thunder was a celebrity. Elementary school was so simple and uneventful, haha.
But now,
when I see it at a convenience store, I don't even feel like buying it. So funny.
I've noticed that chocolate products often cause buying frenzies in Taiwan. Does everyone remember the dirty chocolate bun?

I kept wondering, is it really that miraculous?
Out of curiosity, I opened my mom's bottle and took three pills. Sorry, maybe I'm still young, so I didn't really feel anything. Or maybe I'm just not very sensitive. As long as I'm in a good mood, I feel as energized as a fully charged battery haha.
Though honestly, I'm not actually that healthy haha.
The only thing I really noticed was that when I went to the bathroom, there was a pretty strong medicinal smell. I love drinking water because walking over to refill my cup lets me slack off for a bit, so it can't be because I don't drink enough water, right? But when I'm too busy, I can't do that⋯ Being a corporate drone is so sad😭
I'll try it again when I'm older〜

Yufu Mabushi Shin Kinrin Lake Main Store

This restaurant offers three types of "Yufu Mabushi," a dish that explores the unique ways of enjoying rice in Yufuin. Served in clay pots, the dishes feature Bungo beef, local Yufu chicken, and eel, each accompanied by appetizers, pickles, condiments, and red miso soup.

I honestly think this place is a bit overrated.

I remember arriving at our guesthouse completely exhausted that day. It was cold and rainy, and the owner seemed to have forgotten our reservation, so we waited in the pouring rain for over 20 minutes before checking in. After dropping off our luggage, we even made a special trip to the location near the station—there are two locations—to eat here.

So many people had recommended it that my expectations were sky-high. I have to admit, the presentation was impressive, and the first couple of bites were pretty tasty.

Usually, after walking a long way when I’m exhausted and starving, anything tastes amazing. But even in that state, this place didn’t make me think, “Wow, this is incredible!” It didn’t bring me back to life, so it’s a no for me.

It’s worth trying once, but I wouldn’t go back.

You can turn it into ochazuke, and it comes with a plate of pickles and several sauces on the side. It’s on the pricey side, although the bowl really is loaded with beef.

Still, it gets more and more heavy and monotonous as you eat. Overall, it just wasn’t to my taste.

Tottori–Matsue Pass

The Tottori and Shimane area harmoniously blends natural beauty with cultural heritage, featuring scenic coastlines, majestic mountains, and historic towns. In addition to famous landmarks such as the Tottori Sand Dunes, Matsue Castle, and Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, the region is also known for its hot springs and local cuisine, making it an appealing destination for a relaxing trip. Because the sightseeing spots are spread out across a wide area, using trains and buses is the recommended way to explore.

I used this pass to go to Shinji, Koge, and Sakaiminato.
(Whenever I buy a JR PASS, my bargain-loving Taiwanese side comes out. I have to ride enough to get my money's worth so I don't waste the money I worked so hard for, and I want to see everywhere.)

The place that left the deepest impression on me was Shinji!

I'd always wanted to see the famous sunset over Lake Shinji. But I hadn't done my research and thought, the closest station to Lake Shinji must be Shinji Station, right? I can just get off there〜

To my surprise, as the train kept going, an incredibly beautiful sunset appeared outside the window, so I just kept staring out the window.

I was also starting to get hungry haha. At one point, I even thought about just heading straight to Izumo Taisha, thinking it would probably still be lively at night, right? Unfortunately, I couldn't work up the courage in the end⋯

And then!!!

This was where the real adventure began.

After getting off at Shinji Station, I looked around the area a bit and realized⋯ there was literally nothing there, and the station was unmanned!

There were only three students on the entire platform, plus me, so just four people.

I started getting a little nervous. Was I screwed? Should I have gotten off at Matsue instead? I hurried to buy a ticket to go back, and I kept having trouble using the machine😭

Then the three students boarded a train, and a large group of students got off, so I felt a little relieved. But within a few minutes, they all scattered like birds and animals and disappeared. It also felt like it suddenly became completely dark at that moment.

I quickly called a friend and asked him to keep me company, and my mind even started wandering to urban legends like Kisaragi Station⋯

Luckily, my friend didn't laugh at me or kick me while I was down. If it had been my family, they probably would have worried while nagging me, saying that's what you get for always running around everywhere by yourself⋯ especially my grandma haha.

But honestly, I was really scared at the time.

I kept standing at the front of the platform waiting for the express train because I didn't want to take a local train—it was way too slow—and that's how I got myself into this situation.

I didn't even dare look behind me because I didn't know whether it would be scarier if someone was there or if no one was there😖😭

Even now, looking back on it, it still feels terrifying.

But because of this, the trip gave me one more memory, and I think I was really brave!
And thankfully, I made it safely back to Tottori Station in the end and quickly ate MOS Burger to calm my nerves

Yay~~~ I got home from work and found that the amazing nail clippers I won in June had finally arrived~~~

I hope I can visit the factory someday!

But I realized I don't really know how to use them, hahaha. I guess my hands aren't fancy enough...

I actually couldn't decide between the comb and the nail clippers. My friends all wanted me to pick the comb because they said I probably wouldn't use the clippers much...

But I don't care! I love things like this that can last a long time and feel a little luxurious. (Even though I usually get my nails done...)

But!

I still have toenails! (I say with confidence, haha.)

Maybe this will motivate me to trim them more often.

Back in middle school, I started liking longer nails because mine had always been cut extremely short. When I was little, my uncle would trim off all the white parts because he said they looked dirty.

That made me feel a little self-conscious. Other people had long, slender fingers and beautiful nails, while I had stubby fingers and unattractive nails...

Things are better now, though. My nails still split occasionally, and it hurts like crazy. But when that happens, I'll finally get to use these amazing clippers!

I hope I can put them to good use and experience the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship.

Please, let me feel it!

Pocky Chocolate

Pocky was created in 1966 as the world’s first rod-shaped chocolate sweet. It is a rod-shaped pretzel snack covered in a chocolate coating, and it has a very pleasant texture. The combination of that delicious flavor with a way to keep your hands clean after snacking made them into a huge hit.

I’m sure lots of people are like me and only enjoy the chocolate-covered part. There are tons of different flavors, and pretty much everyone has tried them, right?
(Though honestly, I’m not a huge fan because I can never finish a box... I only eat a few sticks.)

Still, I have a little story about Pocky.
One day, I took a special trip to Yuanshan to visit a drink shop. Since it was also dinnertime, I opened Google and started checking reviews for a good place to eat. I’m so easily won over by five-star ratings...

I picked a nearby pasta place, and guess what!
As soon as I walked in, I ran into a guy I had a crush on in middle school, hahaha. I had barely been shown to my seat when he recognized me...
My mind completely froze. I looked pretty sloppy that day, and I was there alone... It turned out he was picking up an order because he worked there part-time. After washing my hands, I flicked some water on him. Just to clarify, we used to joke around like that in middle school!
I guess he was used to my personality? He didn’t say anything and just smiled helplessly...

He even gave me a JPY 20 discount and called it a small gesture. Of course I had to return the favor! I spent forever trying to decide what to get at the convenience store, and finally chose Pocky because he loves chocolate, haha.
I took it back and asked the woman at the counter to give it to him. And that’s how I ended up with this fun memory tied to Pocky!
Honestly, chatting with him was pretty awkward since we hadn’t spoken in such a long time. Just putting that out there first! 🤣

Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum

A dome-shaped museum located on the low hill near the center of the explosion displaying 1500 preserved documents and personal mementos. You can get an easy understanding of atomic bombs with a design of exhibitions performing a plot with wishes for peace and also describing the devastating terrors of an atomic bomb and the history of nuclear weapons.

My friend wanted to visit the Atomic Bomb Museum, and since I didn’t have anything planned, I tagged along. It also let me check off my second atomic bomb site.
I wasn’t that interested at first, but seeing so many international visitors reading everything so seriously, I ended up following along with the translations for quite a while.
The video showing the power of the atomic bomb left the strongest impression. Even after watching it two or three times, it was still pretty shocking.

Sensoji Temple

This iconic destination in Asakusa sees as many as 30 million visitors each year. It stands as a well-loved mainstay in Tokyo, all while hosting a number of annual traditions like the first temple visit at New Years, Setsubun and more across the year.

Sensoji Temple is basically a must-visit photo spot in Tokyo. It feels like if you haven’t taken a picture at Kaminarimon Gate, you haven’t really been to Tokyo. The temple is huge and impressive, and it’s absolutely packed with tourists. There are also tons of people wearing kimono, and of course I had to join in too. I heard the omikuji fortunes here are really accurate.

The first time I went to Sensoji, my family and I somehow stayed for a full seven hours. We shopped, bought souvenirs, and had some amazing Taisho matcha ice cream. Time just flew by, and looking back now, I honestly don’t know how we managed to stay that long.

Of course, I also drew an omikuji. But two sticks accidentally came out, and I remembered both numbers. The first one turned out to be bad luck, so I quietly pushed it back in, haha. Then I opened the drawer for the second one, and although it wasn’t bad luck, all I could think about was that first bad fortune. I was afraid my mom would laugh at me, so I just pretended I didn’t see it.

When I went again the second time, I thought, whatever, good or bad, I’ll just accept it. It’s not a big deal. Plus, this time I was by myself!

I ended up drawing number 89, and I was like, 89? Is it secretly insulting me? But when I opened it, it was actually great luck! The fortune said I was like an unpolished gem and that I’d meet someone who would help me in the future. I was so happy in that moment. I was just about to enter the workforce and was honestly pretty anxious, so reading those words felt like a real confidence boost. I brought the great-luck fortune home to keep, and also to show it off a little〜🤭

It’s only been three months since then, so I haven’t met any special benefactor yet. But I heard omikuji fortunes are good for one year, so I hope when I look back a year from now, it really will have come true. I also hope I’ll have another chance to visit Tokyo again by then.
