Kehi Jingu Shrine is a famous ancient shrine in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, and the ichinomiya of the former Echizen Province. Since ancient times, it has been known as the “Guardian Shrine of the Hokuriku Region.” This time, I took a taxi from JR Tsuruga Station, and it was quite convenient. The overall atmosphere is solemn and peaceful, and you feel a special sense of calm as soon as you enter the grounds. It is also said to be a spiritual power spot, and many people come specifically to worship and pray for safety and good luck. What impressed me most was the towering vermilion torii gate, which has a commanding presence. It is well worth visiting in person to experience the charm of this ancient shrine.

Shiroyama Park (Kagoshima City)
Perched atop Shiroyama, a small hill rising some 107 meters in the heart of Kagoshima City, Shiroyama Park is a natural sanctuary offering stunning panoramic views of Kagoshima’s iconic Sakurajima volcano and Kinko Bay. Reach this spot with easy access by bus or on foot before heading up to the summit observation deck, complete with sweeping city views and a breathtaking nightscape after dark.
When visiting Kagoshima, don’t miss this scenic park where you can take in the city and natural beauty all at once! From the Shiroyama Park observation deck, you can see downtown Kagoshima, Kinko Bay, and majestic Sakurajima in the distance. On a clear day, the view is especially expansive, and the whole scene really looks like a postcard.
It’s easily accessible by sightseeing bus, making it very convenient to get to. There are also some shops along the way where you can buy souvenirs and browse local Kagoshima products. Sakurajima × Kinko Bay × downtown Kagoshima—you can enjoy Kagoshima’s most iconic scenery all at once. It’s well worth adding to your itinerary when visiting Kagoshima!

Shiroyama (Kagoshima)
Shiroyama is located at an elevation of 107 meters, offering an expansive view of the city, Kinko Bay, and Sakurajima Mountain. The surrounding area was the site of the last fierce battle of the Seinan War, where various places are related to the prominent local figure, Takamori Saigo.
After finding the sign for the trail next to Terukuni Shrine, walk slowly along the mountain path, and you'll reach the observation deck in about 20 minutes. Although it requires a short walk, the route is surrounded by greenery and is very pleasant.
The moment I reached the observation deck, the view was truly stunning. Kagoshima City, the deep blue waters of Kinko Bay, and majestic Sakurajima all came into view at once.
Especially on a clear day, Sakurajima stands clearly across the bay, and the whole scene looks as beautiful as a Japanese travel postcard. Standing here in the breeze and slowly taking in the scenery made me feel that coming to Kagoshima was truly the right choice.

Io World Kagoshima City Aquarium
Located at Kagoshima Port, the Io World Kagoshima City Aquarium offers stunning views of the iconic Sakurajima volcano across Kinko Bay. The aquarium is home to approximately 10,000 creatures from 800 species, primarily those inhabiting the waters of Kagoshima, including the Kuroshio Current and the Nansei Islands. The "Kurosio Great Water Tank" is a major draw, featuring fish like whale sharks, tuna, and bonito that travel with the Kuroshio Current.
When visiting Kagoshima, besides seeing the impressive Sakurajima, I also highly recommend making time for the Io World Kagoshima City Aquarium!
One of the aquarium's biggest features is the distant view of Sakurajima. Inside, there is a large tank themed around “the sea of Kagoshima,” and stepping into the area feels like entering an underwater world.
Although the aquarium isn't especially large, it has everything you would expect. You can also see some marine creatures that aren't commonly seen in Taiwan, making it quite interesting to explore.
The popular dolphin performance is also a must-see. Watching the dolphins jump and roll creates a lively atmosphere, and children will definitely have a great time!
One thing I personally liked about this place was that it didn't feel too crowded overall. The pace was very comfortable, and there was no need to rush. You can take your time looking around and taking photos, and about 2 hours is enough to see everything thoroughly.
If your itinerary brings you to central Kagoshima and you're looking for a relaxing, family-friendly place, the Io World Kagoshima City Aquarium is well worth adding to your plans.
