This is an absolutely beautiful spot you won't regret visiting in Kyushu. When the weather is nice, the stream turns a dreamy Tiffany blue-green and is surrounded by lush green cliffs. If you're driving, check the parking lot locations beforehand. The closest is No. 1 Oshioi Parking Lot, but when there are a lot of cars, you may have to park farther away and walk over from the other side.

The Aso Nakadake Caldera
Nakadake (1506 m) in the center of Mt. Aso is a volcano that continues to be active. You can see the volcanic crater up close. There are seven craters in Nakadake, and the first crater is currently active and can be seen. It can be reached near a huge crater with a circumference of about 4 km. When the gas clears, you can see the emerald green lake at the bottom of the crater, which is filled with 50 ~ 60 °C hot water.
If you're driving, I highly recommend visiting the crater. There are trails nearby, and you can see the spectacular scenery up close, as well as shelters for volcanic eruptions! However, because it is an extremely active volcano, the site will close immediately if volcanic gas concentrations exceed the limit or the alert level is raised. It is also not suitable for people with asthma, bronchitis, or heart disease.

Kusasenri
Mount Eboshi is one of the 5 peaks found in the center of Mount Aso. Here you’ll find Kusasenri, the breathtakingly vast, emerald green grasslands that expand northwards. Many textbook writings, as well as classical poets and song writers have immortalized its beauty in their works, making Kusasenri one of the most iconic images that people know when thinking of Mount Aso.
Driving is the most convenient option. Navigate directly to “Kusasenri Observatory.” There’s paid parking, but it isn’t cheap. You can see Mount Aso in the distance, and the grasslands are beautiful. You can also pay to go horseback riding. The scenery along the drive up the mountain is beautiful. Highly recommended for travelers with a car!

Kumamoto Castle
Kumamoto Castle is the famous castle built by Kiyomasa Kato in 1607. It was built using the latest, cutting edge techniques at the time and was the setting of many important moments in Japan’s history.
As one of Japan's Three Great Castles, Kumamoto Castle has a very modern, renovated interior in its main keep, with comfortable air conditioning, an excellent visitor flow, and plenty of interactive digital projections. After leaving the castle, stop by Josaien for a horse meat croquette and some souvenirs—it makes for the perfect half-day itinerary.
