While in Kagoshima, I made a special trip to Sengan-en. It was once a villa of the Shimadzu family, and the entire garden is filled with traditional Japanese charm. The grounds are quite large. As you slowly stroll along the paths, you can see carefully maintained Japanese gardens, ponds, stone lanterns, and all kinds of lush green plants. Every corner has its own charm. The most captivating feature is the view of Sakurajima in the distance as a backdrop. The garden and volcano complement each other, creating a very distinctive scene. After visiting, I found it very comfortable and not oppressively crowded. You can slow down and enjoy the scenery while also experiencing Kagoshima’s rich historical and cultural atmosphere. It’s well worth setting aside time for a visit!
