The air up in the mountains is super fresh and a bit cool—perfect for escaping the summer heat! The ride from the base to the top isn't long, but the view is amazing. On clear days, you can even see Mt. Fuji!

Senkoji Mountain Ropeway (Senkoji Park)
Mount Senkoji, one of Onomichi's three mountains, rises 144.2 meters above sea level. Senkoji Park extends from the summit to the mountainside. A ropeway connects downtown Onomichi with the park in about three minutes, offering easy access. Along the way, passengers can admire views of the Onomichi cityscape, which is recognized as a Japan Heritage site.
You can drive straight up to the parking lot on the mountain, but there aren't many spaces available. It's a short walk to Senkoji, and you get a great view of Onomichi City. Definitely a spot you shouldn't miss.

Katsushika Shibamata Tora-san Museum
The Katsushika Shibamata Tora-san Museum is a popular attraction in Shibamata Park, about a 3-minute walk beyond Shibamata Taishakuten Temple via the approach from Shibamata Station. Dedicated to Tora-san, the main character of the Otoko wa Tsurai yo film series, the museum recreates Katsushika Shibamata as it appeared around 1960, including Kurumaya, the dango shop to which the free-spirited Tora-san always returns after traveling throughout Japan.
You can see what life was like for Japanese people in the old days here. The iron office desks and printing machines especially brought back a lot of childhood memories for me.

Oshino Hakkai – The 8 Springs of Oshino
Oshino Hakkai is the collective name for Mt. Fuji’s 8 natural ponds, Deguchi-ike, Okama-ike, Sokonashi-ike, Choshi-ike, Waku-ike, Nigori-ike, Kagami-ike and Shobu-ike. Once a former lake, the area has dried up and formed the 8 spring-sourced ponds that remain today.
The spring water is super clear and clean. It tastes really sweet, and I bet it would be fantastic for making tea.
