Last update :

Beyond Oboke Gorge, called one of the leading unexplored regions of Japan, you will find Oku-Iya Niju Kazurabashi Bridge. On a plateau with an elevation of about 1000 meters, there is an ancient double suspension bridge by this name, made of creeping plants such as ivy-leafed ferns.

Since a “male” and “female” bridge cross this gorge, it is also known as the “Wedded Bridge”. The “male” bridge, 42 meters long and 2 meters wide, is 12 meters above the water. Although it is much more compact than the Iya no Kazurabashi Bridge, another bridge over Oboke Gorge, you will feel the same thrill when you stand on this bridge. The “female” bridge measures 22 meters long, 1.2 meters wide and 4 meters high.

What’s more, you won’t want to miss the “Wild Monkey”, a human-powered ropeway to the side of the “female” bridge. Cross over the gorge in a wooden basket, called “yagata”, with a hand-pulled rope. Since it’s powered by people, you’ll need muscle to move it, but this is another interesting thrill to be found here.
