Koenji, located about 6 minutes from Shinjuku Station on the Chuo Line, has always attracted people who stay current, "If you go here, you will find interesting things. There are shopping streets of various sizes stretching from north to south centered on the station, lined with a variety of stores, including cafes, general merchandise stores, and restaurants. It is also famous as a "Vintage clothing town," with a wide variety of secondhand clothing stores.

Under the elevated train tracks of the station, there is a drinking district that makes Koenji a fun place to be at night. Izakaya and other establishments line the streets in a retro Showa-era, photogenic atmosphere. The area is also famous as a gourmet town, and curry lovers should check out the many famous curry restaurants.

Seasonal events such as "Koenji Bikkuri Street Performance" in spring, "Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori(traditional dance festival)" in summer, "Koenji Fest" in fall, and " A traditional comedic storytelling festival (Koenji Engei Festival)" in winter are among the attractions of Koenji. Especially the Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori Dance boasts the second largest scale of the competition after the original Tokushima Awa-Odori Dance and has become a summer tradition.
