The National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo

It was opened in December 1952 as Japan’s first national art museum, which houses works in a wide variety of genres from late 19th century up to the present and shares in exhibitions.

Today, it houses over 13,000 artworks including 18 National Important cultural properties such as Yokoyama Taikan’s Metempsychosis, Kishida Ryusei’s Road Cut through a Hill, and Uemura Shoen’s Mother and Child. From their largest collection in Japan, they select about 200 pieces for each exhibition and change 4 or 5 times a year. Besides the collection exhibitions, special exhibitions are also held 3 or 4 times a year, such as a solo exhibition of a famous artist or a theme exhibition to share works of domestic and international artists.

"Collection Guide" is held (only in Japanese) to provide an experience to solve mysteries of artworks through conversations with the guide staff and participants. "A Room with a View," a lounge, is worth a look as well where you can appreciate the scenery as artwork through windows.
