Hirugami Onsen Morning Market

This open-air market is a local specialty of Hirugami Onsen, the largest hot spring area in southern Nagano. It is held every morning in a plaza along the Achi River, with Approx. 20 stalls. Producers sell directly, offering seasonal vegetables, fruits, and local processed foods. Products change with the season, making each visit a chance for a different find. In addition to farm products, there are also many handmade crafts and processed goods, with plenty of items that make great souvenirs.

When you visit, it’s best to first make a full round of the market and pick up anything that catches your eye early. Friendly exchanges with local people are also part of the fun, and even simple conversations add to the feeling of travel. Achi Village, home to the hot spring town, has been recognized by the Ministry of the Environment as “the place where the stars shine brightest,” and the morning air is wonderfully crisp and refreshing. Located in the center of the hot spring town, it is easy to reach on foot from nearby inns and bus stops. Note that opening hours vary depending on the season.
