Izumo Soba Haneya Main Store
A hand-cut soba restaurant where you can enjoy authentic soba made with techniques passed down through generations.
Founded in the late Edo period (1853–1868), Izumo Soba Haneya Main Store is a hand-cut soba restaurant that has passed down its traditional noodle-making techniques for generations. It uses stone mills to grind buckwheat flour. The restaurant also has the distinction of having served soba to Emperor Taisho and being granted the name “Kenjo Soba.” Valuing the tradition of “Kenjo Soba,” it preserves old traditions while embracing new ideas.
Izumo Soba Haneya Main Store is known for its richly aromatic soba. It embodies the distinctive flavor of Izumo soba, made by grinding even the dark outer hull together with the grain. One of its most popular dishes is the “Wariko Soba, 3 tiers.” This dish is served cold, with soba dipping sauce poured directly over the noodles. Another appealing feature is that it is served in “wariko,” the distinctive stacked bowls of the Izumo region. The menu also includes “Kamaage Soba,” in which freshly boiled soba is served with broth. There is also a wide selection of set meals, udon, and more.
Inside, the restaurant has calm Japanese-style rooms with views of the garden. There are table seats and tatami seating, making it suitable for family meals and gatherings with larger groups.
