Chuo Park (Morioka, Iwate)
A large urban park with a variety of cultural facilities and cafés.
This large, 70.7-acre urban park extends west of Morioka Station. Its open, natural landscape makes it a popular place for residents to relax. Walking paths wind through the park, offering a pleasant setting for leisurely strolls and jogging. From the hill beside the main road leading to Morioka Station, visitors can take in 360-degree views of central Morioka and distant Mt. Iwate.
The grounds are home to several facilities, including the Iwate Museum of Art, Morioka History and Culture Museum, Morioka Children's Museum of Science, and Morioka Memorial Museum of Great Predecessors. These facilities offer an accessible way to explore art, history, and science.
In the southeastern part of the park is BeBA TERRACE, based on the concept of “learning through play and playing through learning.” With a farmers’ market, café-restaurant, pastry shop, coffee stand, and more, it is a popular stop during a walk through the park.
In April 2026, “Geodude Park in Morioka” also opened. Featuring playground equipment inspired by Rock-type Pokémon such as Geodude, the Pokémon Local Acts ambassador for Iwate, and Rockruff, it has attracted attention as a new place for parents and children to play together.
