MALIOS Observation Room
The landmark tower offering a panoramic view of Morioka city, just a stone's throw from Morioka station.
A mere 3-minute walk from the west exit of Morioka Station, the MALIOS building stands as the tallest skyscraper (92m in height) in the northeastern region of Tohoku and serves as Morioka city's landmark tower. Come Christmas time, the entire building gets illuminated, turning it into a radiant beacon that enlivens the wintry Morioka.
Entry to the observation room is free, and visitors can leisurely sit on benches to admire the view. From the room, you can see the beautiful cityscape of Morioka with the flowing Kitakami River and Shizukuishi River. Beyond that, gaze upon Japan's famous mountains such as Mount Iwate and the peaks of Himekami Mountain, showcasing different breathtaking views as the seasons change. During winter, you might even catch a glimpse of swans in migration, flying in large groups. The space is also used as an exhibition venue for art and photographs, frequented by both amateur community circles and professionals alike.
While the regular hours of operation are from 9 AM to 6 PM, special openings occur during events like fireworks festivals. In 2021, they introduced a paid workspace. If you choose a seat by the window, you can enjoy an unparalleled view while concentrating on your remote work or tasks.
