Ganso Pyongyang Reimen Shokudoen
A long-established restaurant known as the birthplace of Morioka Reimen, served with smooth noodles and a beef-based soup.
Founded in 1954, Ganso Pyongyang Reimen Shokudoen is a restaurant where you can enjoy Morioka Reimen and yakiniku. Known as the birthplace of Morioka Reimen, it is widely loved by both locals and tourists. As one of Morioka’s three great noodle dishes, it continues to preserve its tradition today.
The signature dish is Morioka Reimen. It features translucent, hand-kneaded noodles made from a custom flour blend and a richly flavorful soup made with beef bones, beef, and chicken carcass. Toppings include beef chashu, boiled egg, cucumber, and kimchi. You can choose from four spice levels, Extra Hot, Hot, Regular, and Separate Spicy, depending on your preference. Yakiniku made with domestic beef is also popular, and at Shokudoen, the standard way to enjoy the short rib and loin is dipped in beaten egg.
The interior has the atmosphere of a yakiniku restaurant. You can also order just reimen, making it easy to visit on your own. Located in central Morioka, it is also close to sightseeing spots such as Morioka Castle Ruins Park (Iwate Park) and the Iwate Bank Red Brick Building. It is an easy place to stop by between sightseeing and shopping.
