Serving the JR San’in Main Line and Inbi Line, this station is the gateway to Tottori City, the prefectural capital, and a major transportation hub for eastern Tottori Prefecture.

In addition to local train service toward Kurayoshi and Yonago, as well as Hamasaka and Toyooka, the Super Hakuto limited express provides access toward Himeji and Osaka, while the Super Inaba limited express runs toward Kamigori and Okayama. The station is an important hub connecting the San’in region with the Kansai and Sanyo regions.

The station building also houses the Shamine Tottori shopping center, which offers a wide selection of shops and restaurants. Other services include car rentals and station stamps, supporting both leisure and business travelers.

Local buses, scheduled sightseeing buses, and the Kururi ¥100 loop bus depart from in front of the station, providing convenient transportation around the city and to tourist attractions. Used by many travelers as a starting point for exploring Tottori Prefecture, including the Tottori Sand Dunes, it is the prefecture’s leading terminal station.
