Miyakoh Botanic Garden Aoshima
A subtropical botanical garden filled with tropical atmosphere.
Officially named the Aoshima Subtropical Botanical Garden, this botanical garden is located in Aoshima, one of Miyazaki's leading tourist destinations. Established to protect and study Aoshima's native subtropical plant communities, it offers an easy way to experience scenery characteristic of tropical Miyazaki.
The garden is lined with palms such as Chinese fan palms, Canary Island date palms, and date palms, while bougainvillea and hibiscus add vivid color. In the large greenhouse, flowering subtropical trees such as plumeria flourish alongside one of Japan's largest mango trees, creating the feeling of wandering into a tropical forest. Visitors can take in the tropical scenery regardless of the season or weather.
The tropical fruit greenhouse is another highlight. Visitors can get a close look at fruit trees familiar in Miyazaki, including mango, papaya, and guava. Seasonal flower shows and bougainvillea displays are also held, offering something different with every visit. There is also a café serving drinks and other items made with tropical fruit.
