Starbucks Coffee Umekita Green Place
A sustainable Starbucks that embodies Osaka’s mottainai philosophy of avoiding waste.
This Starbucks opened in 2025 on the second floor of Umekita Green Place, which is directly connected to Osaka Station. Adjacent to Umekita Park, its convenient location makes it easy to stop by when commuting, attending school, or sightseeing. The spacious interior, covering more than 3,550 square feet, creates an open and airy atmosphere.
The store’s design incorporates Osaka’s long-standing mottainai philosophy of avoiding waste. Retired aprons and tableware that would otherwise have been discarded are reused as flooring and wall materials. The store also features tabletops made from recycled wood scraps and stools made from 100% recycled plastic. By making full use of a variety of materials, the entire space expresses a commitment to conserving resources.
The tables at the bench seats are made from hinoki cypress sourced from Osaka’s Kawachi region. Large windows offer views of the greenery in Umekita Park and the buildings of Umeda, showcasing a landscape where the city and nature meet. Recycling-themed workshops are also held occasionally, making this a place where visitors can experience Osaka’s culture and commitment to the environment.
