Went to Lake Kawaguchi in winter
It was rare to see such a clear view of Mount Fuji
We happened to be there during the Lake Kawaguchi Fireworks Festival
We were really lucky
Unfortunately, we weren't staying at a nearby hotel
Next time, we'll definitely plan better so we can enjoy the views of Lake Kawaguchi and Mount Fuji

Lake Kawaguchi is quite large, so I’d recommend starting with a stroll around the Funatsu-hama Onsen area. There are lots of great places to eat and shop there, and it’s a perfect spot to pick up souvenirs.
If you want to take that classic photo of Mt. Fuji with the lake, head to Ubuyagasaki. It’s not too crowded, so you can take your time composing shots and enjoying the view.

When the weather is bad, Mt. Fuji is often completely covered by clouds, so you can barely see it—just a faint outline remains. It’s a bit of a shame, but that hazy view has its own atmosphere too.

Lake Kawaguchi is probably one of the most reliable and classic spots for viewing Mt. Fuji. That said, the actual experience depends a lot on the weather, so it’s good to be prepared—whether you get that perfect Mt. Fuji view really comes down to luck to some extent.

I visited on the day of the winter fireworks, so I could see a beautiful show from the hotel where I stayed.
Since February 23 is considered “Mt. Fuji Day” every year, it seems like there are events happening in different places. -

The scenery around the lake is beautiful. Even though it was still pretty cold at the end of March, it was totally worth the trip.

The schedule for the day wasn't too packed, so I had plenty of time to visit other spots around Lake Kawaguchi.

Kawaguchi Lake is the most developed and lively of the Fuji Five Lakes. Lots of big local festivals and cultural events are held here.

Stayed in a room facing the lake. They say if you see Mount Fuji first thing in the morning, it's good luck.

I rented a bike nearby and rode around Lake Kawaguchi. The scenery along the way was just like a painting—absolutely stunning with the lake and mountains.
