If you don’t want to eat too much, you can also buy some fruit or treats and take them back to your hotel to enjoy at your leisure. The most interesting thing about Kuromon Market is how approachable it feels. Here, you can experience the charm of everyday life in Osaka.

This traditional market, with nearly 200 years of history, stretches about 600 meters and is home to more than 100 stalls and shops.

Inside, the dazzling array of stalls on both sides includes premium freshly grilled seafood, authentic Osaka snacks, and wagyu beef, all amid a lively shopping atmosphere.

Although it feels quite commercial, walking through the covered arcade and seeing the vendors enthusiastically calling out to customers still gives you a strong sense of the local character.

I highly recommend setting aside a morning or lunchtime visit. Whether you come hungry and eat your way through the market or simply take in its vibrant food culture, you’ll leave with satisfying memories.

On this trip to Osaka, I also planned a visit to Kuromon Market. I came in the morning to look around, and the whole market was livelier than I expected. Along the way, there were lots of seafood, fruit, meat, and prepared foods. There were so many choices, and just walking around and looking at everything was interesting.

What I liked most was that many vendors prepared the ingredients right there, so you could eat them immediately after buying them, which was very convenient for tourists. The seafood also looked very fresh, but some prices really weren't cheap, so it's better to compare a little before buying.

Kuromon Market isn't the kind of place where you can slowly spend an entire day, but it's easy to include in an Osaka city itinerary. You can spend an hour or two eating something and buying some fruit, then continue shopping around nearby Nipponbashi and Namba. Overall, it's a place worth stopping by while you're in Osaka.

Before coming here, I saw a lot of news reports saying that Kuromon Market overcharges foreign tourists and sells things at very high prices, so I was a little worried. But when I actually visited, I didn't think it was that outrageous, and I had some super delicious sea urchin and Shine Muscat grapes here!!

Prices are kind of tourist-area pricing—not cheap. But I still end up buying sometimes. The wagyu, uni, and grilled scallops are seriously irresistible, and my self-control goes out the window fast.

You can find almost anything in this market, and there are tons of snacks. I especially picked out seafood to try—so satisfying!
