Tottori Nijisseiki Pear Museum acepack Nashikkokan
This is the only museum in Japan specialized in pears which Tottori is famous for. Displays on pears, taste comparison, pear desserts, sales of souvenirs, hands-on experience of cultivating pears, and there are other ways to get to know pears.
They offer tasty pear samples, and you can really learn a lot about the different pear varieties and how they are grown. There are also all kinds of pear-based souvenirs to choose from.
Tottori Sand Dunes The Sand Museum
The world’s first museum, curating sand creations. It is produced by Katsuhiko Chaen, who was selected as “100 Most Respected Japanese People.” He invites sand sculptors from all over the world to display sand sculpture at the global top level.
What makes this world-class museum so amazing is that it is the world’s first indoor and semi-indoor exhibition hall dedicated to sand.
Even when it’s raining steadily outside, you can walk in with an umbrella and enjoy these stunning artworks at your own pace in a comfortable space, completely unaffected by the weather.
Each exhibition also has a different theme.
Tottori Sand Dunes
Located on the Sea of Japan side of Tottori City in Tottori Prefecture, the Tottori Sand Dunes stretch 16 km from east to west and 2.4 km from north to south, making them one of the largest dune systems in Japan. These dunes, designated as a special protected area and a Natural Monument of Japan, are a major tourist attraction representing Tottori Prefecture.
From the top of the Tottori Sand Dunes, looking out over that endless golden sea of sand stretching straight to the deep blue Sea of Japan, the sense of vast open space is incredible. If you get the chance, you should definitely come here and try riding a camel for a totally different experience.
Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport
Located Approx. 7 km northwest of central Tottori City in a sand dune area facing the Sea of Japan, this airport serves as the northeastern Chugoku region’s gateway to the skies. ANA operates scheduled flights to and from Haneda Airport, providing convenient access to and from Tokyo. Since 2015, it has been affectionately known as Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport, inspired by the fact that Gosho Aoyama, creator of the popular manga Detective Conan, is from Tottori Prefecture.
Welcoming travelers and mystery fans from all over the world, the airport thoughtfully blends the entire space with Conan’s classic characters.
From the lobby to the hallways and the large glass windows, it’s filled with Conan-related displays.
Tokyo Monorail
The Tokyo Monorail that runs between Haneda Airport and Tokyo, with an average interval of only 4 minutes, can take you to Hamamatsucho Station in as little as 13 minutes, where a transfer to the JR Yamanote Line can be made.
The easiest and most convenient train for getting from Haneda Airport into the city.
Takamatsu Symbol Tower
Standing 151.3 meters tall, the tower of Takamatsu Symbol Tower is the tallest building in Shikoku. Located just a 5-minute walk from the Takamatsu Port ferry terminal and 3 minutes from JR Takamatsu Station, it is ideally situated as a gateway for exploring Kagawa.
There are shops inside the landmark where you can buy souvenirs and related gifts. There are also restaurants inside if you'd like to grab a meal.
At night, you can also head up to the upper floors to enjoy the nighttime views.
Sugar Butter Sand Tree "Amaou Strawberry Butter"
A Hakata-exclusive flavor created by Sugar Butter Tree, a Tokyo-born confectionery brand popular across Japan. Made with a special strawberry butter using 100% juice from Fukuoka’s famed Amaou strawberries, the dough is baked to juicy perfection. It starts with a crisp, toasty bite, then gently unfolds with the elegant sweet-tart flavor of strawberry for a truly special treat.
I like the small packaging, and I also love seasonal limited-edition items.
Kotohiragu Shrine
The head shrine of Kotohira Shrine stands on Mt. Zozu. It is visited by about 4 million worshippers a year. The main deity, Oomononushinokami, has been known since before the Middle Ages as a guardian deity of maritime traffic and a deity that brings a bountiful harvest and prosperity of industry and culture.
Kotohiragu Shrine — I finally made it up all 785 steps! Halfway up, I really wanted to turn back, but I’m glad I kept going.
It was honestly a bit tiring the whole way up, but the moment I arrived, it felt so worth it.
I bought a golden omamori, and it felt full of blessings and strength.

The Naoshima New Museum of Art, opened in 2025, marks a new chapter in the Benesse Art Site Naoshima project, an art initiative spanning more than 35 years across the islands of Naoshima, Teshima, and Inujima in the Seto Inland Sea.

The lines of the exposed concrete and the natural lighting are absolutely breathtaking.
The works inside are diverse, and each one feels like stepping into a different story.
On top of that, you can grab a meal at the museum restaurant while visiting. As long as the museum is open, the restaurant is open too, which is super convenient. (It doesn’t close randomly.)
