This is a nature park where you can take your time walking around and enjoying the scenery. The grounds are very large and themed after the German countryside, with different flowers in every season. You can also interact up close with cute animals, making it a great place to connect with nature.

From spring through fall, the park takes on a different look as the seasons change. As you stroll around, you’ll see not only lush forests and flower fields, but also plenty of places to rest along the way, so you can sit down when you get tired, enjoy the breeze, and take in the scenery.

I don’t think this is the kind of tourist attraction you rush through. It’s better to slow down and spend a full day exploring at a leisurely pace. If you like natural scenery, flowers, or animals, or just want somewhere away from the noise of the city where you can truly relax, Okayama Forest Park Doitsu no Mori is well worth adding to your itinerary.

When visiting Ushimado in Okayama, you shouldn't miss this olive garden with its Southern European atmosphere. Strolling leisurely among the olive trees and looking out at the Seto Inland Sea and the small islands scattered across it, you can see why Ushimado is known as the “Aegean of Japan.”

Besides enjoying the natural scenery, there are also quite a few small activities to try. The most famous is the “Bell of Happiness,” which symbolizes happiness. Many couples come here specifically to ring the bell, take photos, and enjoy the romantic atmosphere. When you get tired from walking around, don't forget to stop by the shop for some olive-flavored soft serve. The subtle olive aroma paired with the cool, creamy texture is unexpectedly delicious!

Unfortunately, it was cloudy when I visited, with gray skies that lacked the dazzling blue seascape you get on a sunny day. But the cooler, overcast weather also made walking among the olive trees feel more peaceful and relaxing. Even without perfect blue skies, I still really loved the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.

I really like small towns like this without too many tourists. Fukiya Furusato Village is tucked away on a mountain plateau in Takahashi, Okayama. The entire old street features warm reddish-brown tones, with red exterior walls paired with traditional Sekishu roof tiles, giving it a distinctive rustic charm even from a distance.

This was once a prosperous mining town known for copper and bengara (red iron oxide). The wealthy merchants of that era left behind many grand and beautifully detailed historic homes. Walking along the street, you can still feel traces of its former prosperity.

Compared with bustling touristy old streets, I actually prefer Fukiya's quiet atmosphere. There are no crowds, and you only occasionally come across a few travelers. It's especially relaxing to stroll and take photos at an unhurried pace.

If you like old streets, historic homes, and a sense of history but don't enjoy crowded attractions, I highly recommend spending half a day here. There's no need to rush—just taking a leisurely walk around is very enjoyable.

Katsuyama, which preserves the traditional character of a castle town, is a small community filled with the feeling of everyday life. The streets aren't extensive, but they have a distinct character. What attracted me most were the noren curtains hanging at the entrance of each home. Every one has a different design, so walking along the street feels like admiring a series of little scenes.

I visited on a Friday, and there were very few tourists. The whole district was especially quiet, without bustling crowds, making it easier to slowly take in the atmosphere of the old streets and the residents' daily lives.

Okayama Momotaro Airport is definitely one of the more "mini-sized" airports I've visited. It's very easy to reach from the city and serves as an important air gateway for trips to Okayama. Immigration was incredibly fast this time—it took less than half an hour from getting off the plane to walking out of the airport! After exiting, I took a bus directly to the city. The buses are timed to flight arrivals and usually wait for passengers to board and until they're nearly full before departing. The airport bus costs JPY 1,000 one way. You can buy a ticket before boarding or simply use a transit card, so it's quite convenient.

However, you should allow a little more time when departing. The airport itself isn't large, the waiting area is also small, and there's only one duty-free shop, so there isn't much to browse. Overall, although Okayama Momotaro Airport is small, arrival procedures are quick and transportation is simple, making it very convenient for independent travelers.

Admission is JPY 1,000. This massive limestone cave is located in a sheer cliff, where unusual rock formations, stalactites, and waterfalls create a mysterious and spectacular sight. It's definitely worth visiting! The temperature inside is about 14°C, so it feels incredibly cool the moment you enter, but it can get cold if you stay for a while. Remember to bring a jacket, and you may want to have a hat ready too. The full route takes about 40 minutes, mostly along gentle slopes. There are plenty of benches along the way, and even shortcut exits, so you can leave early depending on your energy level. It's very thoughtfully planned.

The lighting inside is well designed, and there are areas where you can stop to rest and take photos. Even casual shots look atmospheric. If you have luggage with you, you can also leave it free of charge at the ticket checkpoint by the entrance, which is very convenient. However, it's fairly dark inside and the ground can be wet and slippery, so be especially careful while walking.

After leaving the cave, the mountains and river outside offer a completely different kind of beauty. The magnificent natural scenery makes it hard to stop taking photos.

Yuskin A really is a highly recommended cream for winter! When the weather gets cold, the skin on your hands and feet can easily become dry, rough, and even cracked. Applying a thick layer makes a noticeable difference in moisture. Although the texture is on the rich side, it's especially suitable for dry areas. Apply it to your elbows, heels, and hands before bed, and your skin will feel much softer the next day. We always keep a jar at home during winter and use it whenever our skin gets dry. Super practical!
