Many different varieties of plum trees are planted here, and the scenery must be even more beautiful when the blossoms are in full bloom. Even better, you can also see Tokyo Skytree from around the shrine, creating a unique Tokyo view where a traditional shrine meets a modern landmark.

I never expected to find such a beautiful bonsai garden tucked away in a quiet neighborhood! Founded by world-class bonsai artist Kunio Kobayashi, the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum showcases the art of bonsai to the fullest. Each bonsai looks like a carefully crafted work of art. From the shape of the tree and its branches to its overall form, you can feel the character built up over the years and the care of the artisans.

I visited on a weekday, when there weren’t many people, so I could stroll leisurely through the garden and appreciate the thoughtful details in every corner. The garden is laid out with elegance and precision, and each area has its own character. There are surprises everywhere, making you want to slow down and fully enjoy the peace and beauty.

What impressed me even more was how kind and friendly every staff member I met was, adding a sense of warmth to the entire visit. It doesn’t feel like a busy tourist attraction, but instead has a relaxed atmosphere far removed from the hustle and bustle. Even if you make a special trip from outside central Tokyo, you’ll feel it was worth the journey!

If you enjoy Japanese gardens or bonsai art, or are looking for a quiet and distinctive place to visit, the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

I never expected the Tokyo Metro Museum to be so much fun! Through three approaches—seeing, touching, and operating—the museum introduces visitors to the history of Japan's subway development, various train models, and the latest railway technology.

Admission is inexpensive, but the exhibits are quite extensive. In addition to all kinds of models and valuable artifacts, there are also train simulators you can try yourself! Staff members are there to provide careful guidance, so you can actually experience the fun of being a train operator.

I originally thought I would just take a quick look around, but it turned out to be much more interesting than I expected. You can learn while having fun, and both adults and children can have a great time! I recommend allowing at least 1 hour to explore at a leisurely pace. If you like trains or transportation, or are traveling with children, I highly recommend stopping by!

In Sakura, Chiba, I recommend visiting this museum filled with history and culture!

The museum grounds are beautiful, the building’s exterior is modern and attractive, and the surrounding area is lush with greenery. Just walking around the grounds feels very relaxing.

The exhibits are quite extensive, covering Japanese history, folklore, everyday culture, and valuable materials preserved from different eras, all of which you can take your time viewing and learning about. The exhibits are also thoughtfully organized and offer plenty of depth. Rather than simply viewing artifacts, you can get a sense of how Japanese culture has developed over time.

If you’re interested in Japanese history and culture, or you’re looking for a quiet and worthwhile place to visit, this museum is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

This shrine has been an important place of worship in the Chiba area since ancient times. It is known for the Myoken Grand Festival and primarily enshrines Myoken Sonjo-o. Many people regard it as a shrine that wards off misfortune, prevents disasters, and offers protection.

The shrine is dominated by bright vermilion buildings with gold decorations, giving it a very ornate and distinctive appearance. Many people reportedly come specifically to pray for safety and protection from misfortune, and the shrine even offers blessings for new cars and prayers for road safety.

During this visit to Chiba City, I happened to include a stop here to worship and walk around while experiencing the solemn atmosphere of a traditional Japanese shrine. If you happen to be visiting Chiba City, consider adding it to your itinerary and stopping by to pay your respects.

This time, we stayed at Grand Mercure Minamiboso Resort & Spa. Surrounded by the ocean and nature of Minamiboso, it offers an all-inclusive plan and is perfect for a relaxing family vacation with kids!

Getting there is also very convenient. You can take an express bus from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal, so there’s no need to worry even if you don’t drive. There’s a beach near the hotel and several nature trails in the surrounding area where you can take a leisurely walk and enjoy the ocean views.

The food at the hotel was delicious, and the lounge was very comfortable. There’s also an indoor play area, and the kids had so much fun as soon as they went in! The biggest surprise was that the guest room also had lots of toys, making the kids never want to leave the room.

What I liked most was the scenery around the hotel. It faces the ocean and is surrounded by nature, and the ocean view is truly beautiful. When staying here for a night with kids, there’s no need to plan a special itinerary. Just eating and playing at the hotel and taking a walk by the ocean makes for a full yet relaxing day.

When visiting Mt. Nokogiri in Chiba, I recommend taking the Mt. Nokogiri Ropeway. It takes you from the base to the summit in about 4 minutes, with views of the forested mountains and Tokyo Bay along the way. When the weather is good, the views are truly wonderful!

The ropeway is within walking distance of JR Hamakanaya Station and Kanaya Port for the Tokyo Bay Ferry, making it very convenient to reach. I visited on a weekday during the off-season, so it wasn’t crowded. The ropeway runs about every 15 minutes, and a round-trip adult ticket costs JPY 1,200.

If you want to visit Nihonji Temple or Jigoku Nozoki, be sure to pay close attention to the time! The opening hours are around 15:00–16:00, so taking the 14:45 ropeway would be a bit rushed. I recommend taking the 14:30 departure for a more relaxed visit. Nihonji Temple requires a separate admission fee of JPY 700 for adults.
