Every time you visit Osaka, if you don't make a pilgrimage to Ebisu Bridge, where Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori meet, to see the huge Glico Running Man (グリコサイン) neon sign, it's like you never came to Osaka! As soon as you step onto the crowded bridge, the air is filled with excited exclamations in different languages and joyful laughter, with everyone packed onto the bridge trying to capture this iconic scene.

This Running Man sign overlooking the Dotonbori Canal has become one of the clearest symbols of Osaka's urban spirit since it was installed in 1935. The iconic runner crossing the finish line with his arms spread wide against a blue track background radiates unstoppable energy, whether seen during the day or lit up at night. At night in particular, neon lights flash all along the Dotonbori waterfront, and the Running Man's lights reflect on the water. Combined with all the giant three-dimensional signs nearby, such as the crab, takoyaki, and gyoza, the lively atmosphere reaches its peak.

After taking the classic group photo, look out from Ebisu Bridge and you'll see the seemingly endless Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street and Dotonbori's restaurant district on either side. Whether you want takoyaki or kushikatsu, or want to shop till you drop, just turn a corner and you can immediately immerse yourself in Osaka.

I highly recommend including Ebisu Bridge and the Running Man in an evening or nighttime walk when visiting Osaka. You can not only check in and take memorable photos here, but also deeply experience Osaka's most authentic, passionate, and vibrant local spirit!

Whenever you visit Osaka, if you want to experience the lively atmosphere filled with neon signs and unbeatable food, Dotonbori, known as the heart of Osaka's entertainment district, is an absolute must-visit.

As soon as you enter the bustling streets of Dotonbori, the huge 3D signs along the way are a feast for the eyes, from the giant crab and Kinryu Ramen signs to all kinds of takoyaki and kushikatsu signs. The whole neighborhood is bursting with energy.

Strolling along both sides of the canal and through the shopping streets, you can enjoy authentic okonomiyaki and local snacks at any time. Turn a corner, and you can head straight into Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street for some serious shopping.

At night, colorful neon lights reflect on the river, while endless crowds and sightseeing boats showcase the vibrant charm of Osaka's nightlife.

I highly recommend planning your visit from dusk into the evening. Whether you're sampling the many popular foods worth lining up for or experiencing the authentic everyday energy of Kansai, you're sure to leave with exhilarating memories.
Kuromon Market

Kuromon Market in Minami, the heart of Osaka, is said to have started around 1822 and was approved as an official market by Osaka Prefecture in 1902. The market got the name “Kuromon Market (Black gate market)” because the gate to Enmyoji Temple near the market was black. Since then, it has been loved as Osaka’s favorite kitchen, and it has become a popular tourist attraction these days.

If you want to experience the lively appeal of everyday local food, Kuromon Market, known as Osaka’s Kitchen, is definitely the top place to visit.

As soon as you reach the entrance, you’re greeted by large overhead signs and bustling crowds, while the tempting aroma of food constantly fills the air.

This traditional market, with nearly 200 years of history, stretches about 600 meters and is home to more than 100 stalls and shops.

Inside, the dazzling array of stalls on both sides includes premium freshly grilled seafood, authentic Osaka snacks, and wagyu beef, all amid a lively shopping atmosphere.

Although it feels quite commercial, walking through the covered arcade and seeing the vendors enthusiastically calling out to customers still gives you a strong sense of the local character.

I highly recommend setting aside a morning or lunchtime visit. Whether you come hungry and eat your way through the market or simply take in its vibrant food culture, you’ll leave with satisfying memories.
Amanohashidate

Amanohashidate is one of Japan’s Top 3 Scenic Spots, along with the bay of Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Miyajima in Aki, Hiroshima Prefecture. Across the length of this 3.6km landbridge you’ll find 5000 pine trees planted across its 20m-170m wide shores.

When you come here, the classic highlight you absolutely shouldn't miss is standing on the “Matanozoki Platform” and bending over to look at the view upside down through your legs. The moment your view flips, the long, narrow sandbar suddenly turns into a dragon soaring across the sky, as if it were mysteriously and spectacularly charging straight into the clouds.

Besides enjoying the snowy scenery and this unique sight, the cable car and single-seat chairlift ride up the mountain are a visual treat in themselves. As you slowly ascend, the snow-covered forests and the bay below blend together into a beautiful winter ink painting.

I highly recommend adding Amanohashidate to your itinerary when exploring the Kansai region in depth. Whether you try the fun upside-down view through your legs, ride the cable car through the snow, or take in the romantic atmosphere of this place from Japanese mythology, you're sure to leave with breathtaking winter memories that will last a lifetime!
