Takoume Main Restaurant
A renowned Osaka restaurant known as Japan's oldest oden restaurant.
Established in 1844, this long-standing restaurant is known as Japan's oldest oden restaurant. Located in Dotonbori, Osaka, Takoume Main Restaurant has preserved its traditional flavors for over 180 years and is now run by its fifth-generation owner. The name is said to come from the counter, which was called a tako when the restaurant opened, and the founder, Umejiro Okada.
The signature dish is oden, known in Osaka as kanto-daki. One specialty, Saezuri®, is a rare dish made with whale tongue and is said to have first been served as an oden ingredient by the original owner. Slowly simmered in a traditional broth passed down since the restaurant's founding, its exceptional flavor has won over generations of regulars, along with the sweet-simmered octopus. The menu also features a wide variety of carefully prepared oden ingredients, including daikon radish, hirozu fried tofu fritters, and whale sinew.
The warm wood interior has the relaxed atmosphere of a long-established restaurant, providing a comfortable setting for a leisurely meal accompanied by warm sake. This historic restaurant was also beloved by many writers and cultural figures, including Sakunosuke Oda and Takeshi Kaiko, and has appeared in their works.
