Akao Herb & Rose Garden
A garden with roses and herbs created by taking advantage of topography of “Nishikigaura”, a famous scenic beauty.
It is a photogenic garden spread out over an extensive premise of about 160 acres, taking advantage of the topography of the scenic beauty of Nishikigaura. Each of the 12 themed gardens is very unique with roses and herbs from all over the world. Since the park is built on natural terrain, you can take a guided shuttle bus to the top of the park, and then take a walk down to enjoy the flowers and scenery.
The garden is supervised by landscape designer Nobuo Shirasuna. He is aiming to create not only the world’s largest garden, but also the only one of a kind in the world.
“COEDA HOUSE”, designed by a famous architect Kengo Kuma, is also a must-visit spot in the garden. The all-glass cafe with the pillars of stacked wood matches perfectly with the beautiful view of the sky and sea. You can enjoy the spectacular view while having their original drinks made with roses or herbs that can only be tasted here.
“Herb House” offers a variety of herbal goods, including lavender soft-serve ice cream and original herbal teas. ”Herb Studio” is also popular for its hands-on experience, such as making herbal soap and making herbal nail oil using only natural ingredients.
Beautiful seasonal flowers blooming in the magnificent nature and the scent of herbs may provide a healing moment for you.
